I don’t like these complicated lighting systems that everyone wants, and which once they are installed, are a nightmare to work, and often produce ugly, harsh white lighting. As long as the light source is close to your eyes, it is much better for the soul to work by a warm, yellow light source coming from one solitary lamp. Some ceilings look like the runway of Heathrow airport they have so many spots. And although they trumpet the use of “low energy bulbs” a single ceiling fitted with 30-50 low energy spots must surely be environmentally unsound?
I prefer the simple and archaic approach. A beautiful hand crafted lamp that takes one or two low energy bulbs,  fitted with a simple ON/OFF switch and a dimmer. All my lamps, although archaic in mood,  function perfectly to read, work and play by and can be passed down from one generation to the next. One client’s newly installed high tech. drawing room ceiling collapsed soon after being built and the only thing left standing in the room was the pair of bronze floor lamps I had just delivered. They are built to last! Unlike a lot of what is produced in today’s throw-away society.
S: The process of making lights encompasses a huge amount of skills. From the original design or maquette to the intricacies of making the shade to the sheer physical hard work of patinating the bronze.
